Voice over LTE is gaining traction. Through 2015 and 2016 we will see an increasing number of operators launch VoLTE and VoWiFi services, either on full or “light” versions of the IMS.
The upsides for operators are improved spectral and voice domain efficiency, and the potential to offer an improved quality of experience to customers. In time there may also be the opportunity to differentiate on IP voice and messaging, generating new revenue streams.
But to realise these benefits operators face challenges, and one of the biggest is to navigate the technical complexity of VoLTE deployment to assure that this key service – voice – can be delivered in this new domain consistently, reliably and with excellent quality.
To do this operators must have a keen awareness of how they can assure and optimise VoLTE and VoWiFi services from IMS to core to RAN, guaranteeing that they can plan, deploy and then scale up and grow VoLTE deployments.
This white paper outlines the key technical considerations, assurance and optimisation challenges, and the solutions available to understand and overcome them. It is a vital addition to the resources of all those designing, implementing and managing VoLTE services.
