Telcos are doing great work in automating areas of operations and implementing AI technologies, but they are starting to experience diminishing returns. That’s because, as a result of the complex operating models they have built up, they are automating and optimising in islands rather than in a cross-platform way.
One reason telcos are struggling is because of the operating model in which they are governed. It needs a massive mindset shift to think about data first. Then you drive the value from that.
Vivek Murthy, President, OSS, Rakuten Symphony, says telcos need to look at a fundamentally different approach – one that will enable them to escape their operational complexity, change their business operating models and benefit from new and upcoming AI technologies.
“When you start to keep a mindset of taking data into a layer and then building functions on top of it, you can really start to construct a very simplified approach to this architecture. That’s what Rakuten Symphony is trying to do, and we’ve got a good deal of success.”
Putting this foundation in place means you can then start to implement new technologies, such as Gen AI, natural language processing and Agentic AI.
